Grupo Enhol selects Nordex turbines for the 34 MW upgrade of a wind power plant in Spain.

The transition to renewable energy is gaining momentum globally, with many nations prioritizing the phasing out of coal and oil for sustainable alternatives. This trend is especially evident in Europe, where companies such as Grupo Enhol are committing to harnessing wind energy. Recently, they partnered with Nordex, a leader in the wind power sector, for a significant project involving the repowering of a Spanish wind facility with a capacity of 34 MW. Nordex has firmly established itself as a global leader in wind turbine manufacturing, boasting operations that reach across various continents.

Europe’s Clean Energy Commitment Highlighted at the G20 Summit

The recent G20 Summit in South Africa underscored the strong commitment among nations to reduce carbon emissions over the next few years, echoing goals set during the Paris Agreement. Many countries are strategically pivoting towards the renewable energy sector as the prime solution for achieving these emission reduction objectives.

A new G20 Declaration aims to triple clean energy production and double the efficiency of existing energy projects, showcasing an ambitious plan to integrate renewable energy more deeply into national infrastructures. Spain, alongside the rest of the globe, has pledged to completely transform its energy landscape, which is exemplified by the recent agreement between Grupo Enhol and Nordex.

Nordex’s New Deal: Boosting Spain’s Renewable Energy Capacity

Nordex has secured a contract to supply turbines for the repowering of the Caparroso wind project, a testament to the firm’s robust reputation in the energy sector. This project will feature a total installed capacity of 34.2 MW, and Nordex has further enhanced the collaboration by offering a 20-year Premium Service contract to Grupo Enhol. Their longstanding partnership reflects the trust and reliability that Nordex has built over the years with energy companies across the globe.

Spain’s Renewed Focus on the Wind Energy Sector

Spain’s favorable view of renewable energy has catalyzed the initiation of various wind projects throughout the country. The Caparroso project is just one example of the fruitful collaboration between Nordex and Grupo Enhol, following successful launches of several other wind farms like Abilitas (41.6 MW), Cabanillas (56.5 MW), and Pestriz (52.8 MW) in Navarra.

Installation work for the Caparroso project is slated to commence in July 2026, with commissioning expected by February 2027. Notably, all essential components, including wind towers and turbine blades, will be manufactured in Spain, while the hubs and drive train components will come from Nordex’s factory in Germany.

Financing for this repowering initiative is made possible through the Recovery and Resilience Facility, a program established by Regulation (EU) 2021/241 by the European Parliament. Nordex’s extensive wind portfolio continues to expand, including a recent order for a 60 MW wind farm in Ireland.

“Our advanced turbine technology and manufacturing capabilities are essential for supporting the region’s energy transition and the goals of the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility.” – Francisco Cejudo, Director Sales Spain at Nordex Group

Nordex: The Backbone of the Global Wind Power Industry

The announcement regarding Nordex’s role in Spain’s wind repowering project comes amid a backdrop of impressive developments in the wind power sector worldwide. Recently, Nordex also received additional orders for a wind power project in Germany. This burgeoning advancement of the wind energy industry across Europe serves as a pivotal example of the necessary shift towards renewable energy sources that is steadily taking root around the globe.
