    ### The 16th Assembly of IRENA: A Step Toward a Renewable Future

The 16th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has officially kicked off in Abu Dhabi, setting the stage for crucial discussions on the future of clean energy. This gathering brings together high-ranking representatives from member states, energy policymakers, and global leaders focused on accelerating the transition to renewable energy.

    ### Theme of Empowerment

Under the thought-provoking theme “Empowering Humanity: Shared Prosperity through Renewable Energy,” the two-day assembly is not just about energy technologies; it aims to emphasize economic inclusiveness, equality, and overall human welfare. The focus is clear: moving towards renewable sources of energy while ensuring that the benefits reach all layers of society. Azerbaijan is well represented in these discussions through Rena Humbatova, the Deputy Director of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy.

    ### Key Sessions and Highlights

Among the many focal points during this assembly are the key sessions that will tackle critical strategies for scaling up global renewable energy deployment. Participants will delve into various measures required to make energy transitions not only impactful but also socially and economically beneficial. The discourse will include how to bridge energy gaps, fortify resilience, and champion sustainable development—issues that are increasingly relevant in today’s world.

    ### Monitoring Progress: UAE Consensus Goals

A vital part of the agenda is the presentation of IRENA’s second progress report regarding the UAE Consensus goals. These goals aim to triple global renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency improvements, a substantial objective that could redefine how nations approach their energy needs. The report will provide insights into ongoing commitments and expected future outcomes.

    ### Diverse Focus Areas

The program is rich with content, featuring a ministerial meeting alongside several high-level sessions that will explore the application of renewable energy in crucial sectors like agriculture and food systems. There will also be discussions on geothermal energy development, enhancing energy security, financing the energy transition, and addressing challenges associated with critical raw materials.

    ### Azerbaijan’s Role and Commitment

Azerbaijan’s involvement with IRENA dates back to 2009. The country became a full member following the ratification of the Agency’s statute by the Milli Majlis on May 2, 2014. Notably, during IRENA’s 13th Assembly, Azerbaijan was elected to the IRENA Council for the 2023–2024 term. This reflects the country’s increasing commitment to participating in the global renewable energy dialogue.

    ### The Future of Renewable Energy

IRENA currently includes a robust membership of 171, comprising 170 countries and the European Union. The organization actively promotes the wide adoption and sustainable utilization of renewable energy sources like solar, wind, hydropower, bioenergy, geothermal, and ocean energy. Its mission is closely aligned with promoting sustainable development, ensuring energy access and security, and fostering low-carbon economic growth.

Through this assembly and ongoing initiatives, IRENA aims to shape a future where renewable energy is not just a possibility, but a reality for all, ensuring that every nation has the tools, technologies, and frameworks needed for a sustainable energy transition.
