Just a month prior, in October, Alpiq successfully commissioned its first battery storage project in Finland, boasting a capacity of 30MW. This recent success follows a significant deal concluded at the end of November for the 103.5MW Schuby large-scale battery storage facility in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Such initiatives reinforce Alpiq’s commitment to expanding its presence in the energy storage sector.

    In March, Alpiq further strengthened its portfolio by acquiring the Pysayspera battery energy storage project from Swedish independent power producer (IPP) Arise for €6.7 million. With a projected capacity of 125MW/250MWh, this facility is expected to be one of Finland’s largest battery energy storage systems, equipped with a fast-track grid connection to Fingrid’s substation in Haapajarvi, anticipated to commence operations by 2027.

    Future Prospects and International Ventures

    Alpiq’s ambitions extend beyond Germany and Finland. In France, the company is on track to develop a 100MW battery storage facility in La Corne-en-Vexin, scheduled to come online in early 2027. Additionally, within Switzerland, Alpiq has been actively marketing third-party batteries since 2018, managing a portfolio that includes 50MW, showcasing their commitment to broadening the landscape of energy storage solutions.
